davidpenna Heard this tune on Friday Night Progressive and haven't stopped listening to it since. More like a concept EP combined into one track, this one song so obviously shows John Beagley is a compositional, conceptual and production visionary not unlike Peter Gabriel or Roger Waters, transcending styles & instruments... I'll be checking out his other works next.

The Hum or Earth Hum is a phenomenon, or collection of phenomena, involving widespread reports of a persistent and invasive low-frequency humming, rumbling, or droning noise not audible to all people. Hums have been widely reported by national media in the UK and the United States. The Hum is sometimes prefixed with the name of a locality where the problem has been particularly publicized: e.g., the "Bristol Hum" or the "Taos Hum" or "Windsor Hum".

It is unclear whether it is a single phenomenon - different causes have been attributed.

The more I dug into this phenomenon, the more questions I have. There are plenty of great clips to look and listen to on Youtube. Some of the sounds are low frequency rumbles, some metallic resonating screams. An interesting idea is that the earths polarity point has moved very slightly and as a result the core of the earth is re-aligning itself. One things is clear, many of the sounds are uncannily similar from Chile to Norway, from UK to Canada. Is this coincidence?

I attempted to recreate and bring in some of these sounds and questions into this piece to try and paint a picture of what it must be like to suffer with this noise and to question what on earth it could be.....

(Part 1)
This great big hum
Begins to Circle round my head again
Shakes my core
Unlocking secrets to share with us all
I catch my breath
I’m frozen in the awe of what it brings
Feeling like the earths’ begun to sing
Wonder what the future has to bring
This great big hum
Great big hum

(Part 2)
Waking up the shadows
Shaking up the night
Oh to be right here to listen
Picking up vibrations
Shaking in the ground
Feelings flow with awe and wonder
But I wonder what to do
There’s a sign for me and you…

There’s a guy with his head held in his hand
Wondering what say
Cannot believe today
And droning keeps sounding on and on
Can anyone else hear this
How d’ya explain all this?

Confused from where its coming
And where it’s going to
Could be travelling top to bottom
Sound is moving slowly
Resonates the mind
Creeping through the land around me
A thousand questions run…
What has just begun?

Part 3
(Spoken) : “whats that?”
“Can you hear it too?”
Where’s it coming from?
Don’t know
“It’s from the sky”
“No, wait, the earth?”
“I feel it”
“In your feet?”
“Its getting louder”

It’s a little bit like a
Diesel engine deep in the ground
And it kind of reminds me of
Nothing nothing nothing on earth at all
Its little like bit like the
Sky’s crying for a reason to fall
And the earth is vibrating
Hold on

All across the plain lands
Out across the sea
Far beyond the mountains
Flowing through ravines
Up into the starlight
Shaking through the trees
Rumbling the city
Keeping me from sleep….

(Part 4 Instrumental)

(Part 5)
So Im feeling the earth hum
But I dunno what its done
To leave me in the state I’m in
The ground beneath my feet
Is vibrating in the heat
And I sure don’t know what has begun
The sounds climbing in the air
And its shaking everywhere
And its nothing like Ive ever seen
So the mysterys begun
Whats causing the earth hum
From Canada to the UK

Do we know what has begun?
To cause our pale blue dot to hum

There’s a tremble in the ground
An apocalyptic sound
Resonating all around
And it feels as if the earth
Is speaking out to us
Uncertain what she’s trying to say

Do we know what has begun?
To cause our pale blue dot to hum
Should we worry – should we run?
Or try to understand whats done

Can you feel the big earth hum?
Do you know what has begun?
