about

This took 18months on and off. I nearly gave up! Originally conceived for my prog band Formativ, sadly our drummer suffered a terrible life changing car crash and while we didnt know what to do, I carried on with this as a solo piece.

lyrics

EGO
Part I - Enlightenment
Oh – fill your ego mind
Oh – leave the world behind
Oh – fill your ego mind
Oh – see what you can find

Part II – The Hurting
You can play the part of a humble guy whose out to please the star struck masses
With your eloquence and famous friends
You can suck them in and let them idolise the things you do
We know differently – your climbing up the fame game

Ego, Ego, Ego, Ego
You’re not special you’re just like the rest of us
Ego, Ego, Ego, Ego
Big big smiles don’t cover whats inside of you
You’ve got a big problem with your ego
Fighting challenging everything you say and do
You’ve got to let go of your ego
The world keeps spinning and no one will remember you....

And someday when it falls apart
You’ll end up at the painful start
And someday you’ll be long since gone
Asking where it all went wrong

You can use the good souls to get you where you want to be
Use them ditch them when they’re no more use to you
As you shaft the people who entrusted you with love and light
You don’t care - but I guarantee you will

No one likes a cheat or a user or a thief of love
But you keep sucking the good out of everyone
I can tell you that the vultures circling round your crazy head
Are poised to devour the sadness that lies in there

Ego, Ego, Ego, Ego
You’re not special you’re just like the rest of us
Ego, Ego, Ego, Ego
Big big smiles don’t cover whats inside of you
You’ve got a big problem with your ego
Fighting challenging everything you say and do
You’ve got to let go of your ego
The world keeps spinning and no one will remember you....

Your conscience is an open wound
That can only be healed by truth
And someday when your empire falls
You’ll have nobody to share your spoils...

Part III – Reflection
Outside in the quiet air
Can you feel despair
Hoping that I could be wrong
Wondering if you care
Is that too much to ask?...... (Is that too much to ask?)

Inside your frozen mind
Where did it go wrong?
Who stole that genius
And turned it into power?
Is that too much to ask...? (Is that took much to ask?)

Part IV – Equals
We are souls together
All of us claim we’re right
But some of us know when to stop
And turn the wrongs to right
We can fly so blindly
Into a starry world
Believing in ourselves too much
And never letting go....

Every one is equal
Everyone has a path
Noone has the right to jump
The journey thats laid for us
Knowing your position
In this game of life
Is crucial for your state of mind
....Equals to the end

Part V – Trying
Never saw it coming
Avoided all the signs
Changed all my perceptions
Thought that I was doing fine
Built up my big empire
With high class fancy friends
Climbed up to the very top
Walked all over them
Oh yeah – I have been trying
To read and justify
To bring peace to my mind
Too long
And yes – I have been crying
Reading pages of a book
When I should’ve had a look
At me....
